A fast-moving dumper truck in Karachi's Liaquatabad area crushed a number of vehicles, killing one woman and injuring eight others on Thursday after its brakes failed.

According to eye witnesses, the speeding truck crushed and totalled at least three cars, one motorcycle and a rickshaw, while several other cars and bikes were damaged.

According to the police, the incident occurred because the truck's brakes failed. The police also said that the vehicle's driver, Naimatullah, who had initially fled the scene, was arrested along with Ejaz who was also present in the truck at the time of the incident.

The injured — including Hussain 25, Azeem, 22, Saqib, 25, Ramazan, 45, Irfan, 33, Nouman, 35, Yasir, 18, and Sabir, 26 — were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital

The flow of traffic in the area has been severely hampered and there is a severe traffic jam from Teen Hatti to Shahrah-i-Pakistan.
