LAHORE: Wapda dominated the opening day of the National Men and Women Karate Championships winning all three gold medals at stake at the Wapda Sports Complex here on Friday.

In female team kata, Wapda won gold medal, Army earned second position while teams from Sindh and Balochistan secured third position.

Wapda team also clinched gold in male team kata. Army claimed second position while teams from Sindh and Railways were joint third.

In female individual kata, Shahida gave Wapda their third gold medal.

She was followed by Railways’ Nazdana who seized silver. Army’s Aiman Zahra and Rahila of Balochistan secured third spot.

Earlier, president of the Pakistan Olympic Association retired Lt Gen Arif Hasan inaugurated the championships.

Teams from all affiliated units of the Pakistan Karate Federation — Wapda, Army, Police, Railways, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and Fata — are featuring in the championships.
