RAWALPINDI: An army officer was killed while his father, wife and two children were injured critically after his car collided head-on with a dumper near Kahuta on Monday, police said.

Police said Major Syed Wajahat Kazmi was coming to Rawalpindi from Azad Kashmir along with his family when he met with an accident and died on the spot.

The injured were shifted to the Military Hospital while the truck driver escaped from the scene.

Separately, gunmen shot and injured two jewellers after snatching jewellery and cash from them in Kallar Syedan.

Arshad Butt along with his son Hamza Butt was returning home after closing his shop when two motorbike riders intercepted their car.

When the gunmen tried to snatch the jewellery and cash, the traders put up resistance. The gunmen then shot both Mr Arshad and his son and grabbed the jewellery along with Rs100,000 cash and sped away.

In another incident, two armed bike riders snatched a motorcycle from Tanveer Ahmed near the Rahmatabad flyover. Four robbers looted Rs50,000 and mobile phone sets from a shop in Sadiqabad, said the police.
