Protesting against the alleged discrepancies in the 2017 census results, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Sunday staged a political show of power in Karachi.
MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar, while addressing a gathering in Liaquatabad area of the metropolis, outright rejected the results of the 2017 census, claiming that the federal government purposely reduced the numbers of Karachiites in papers to usurp the rights of the citizens.
The census results have placed the population of Karachi at around 15 million people, however, the "figure of 15 million only depicts the female population of the city," Sattar said.
He demanded that the government reconduct the census.
"Our representation has been slashed to half, this will affect our development projects and the already thin amount of resources at our disposal will be further reduced," he maintained.
"Today they have reduced our population, tomorrow they will reduce our water quota as well," feared Dr Sattar.
Through the rigged results of the census, names of eight million MQM voters have been erased, he alleged.
Talking about the party leaders and workers who have switched their loyalties, Sattar said that all of them along with several others will rejoin MQM if the party was provided a level playing field.
We will vote for the bill on delimitations if we are guaranteed the safety of our rights, he said after expressing his reservations that the results of the census will also affect delimitations.
Karachi is a city of at least 30 million individuals, he claimed, adding that the party was demanding the rights of the citizens on the bases of the population of Karachi.
He warned that if their demands regarding census were not met, they will demand resources and seats on the basis of revenue generated in Karachi.

What are previous census results, The objectors may need to go to court to establish the facts,making a public claim is one thing, the reality on examination something else. Loud politicking always gets a loud response, the voting booth is quiet tho.

Manipulating census result of Karachi and other cities of Sindh will result in another creation of Bangladesh in Pakistan. Injustice divides the country. Make changes in the law to give life imprisonment to those who manipulate
the results, as they are leading the country to further division.

Save your light and thunder Mr. Sattar. Provide some concrete evidence of your claims. Provide info on how the federal government under counted Karachi population by such a massive percentage. How did census officials colluded with each other and it was accomplished. What methods and techniques were used. Without it you will not have a chance to correct the errors.

I think MQM-P approach is not sensible for their demand. Instead of creating rift among people we should approach to concern authority with proof to refuse their exercise. Resources belong to people of Pakistan and no one has authority to blame other province for mistakes of few.

Rest assured you will not be heard for the simple reason that in the past you and your leaders of the past have shown little or no maturity to solve the basic problems of Karachi. You were always given either threats or offered some lollipops which appeared enough for you to back out of the genuine demands of the Karachi populace, thereby resulting in denial of the share of Karachi on one hand and making you more vulnerable the next time history was to repeat itself. You must take a stand based on justice for yourself and all the other stakeholders and try to convince them that denying due rights and privileges to all the citizens of the country is going to harm the federation and also provincial interests in general. The Sindh government, if it ignores the rights of the people of Karachi is doing injustice to its own people and thereby loses the right to rule them.

Higher population will get higher share and this share will be transfer to UK base for their luxury lives style and then the drama of vulgar language against the nation and institutions. MQM show us the progress and development of Karachi for twenty years record. Nil, people will not forgave and forget the way MQM ruled the city.

I won't say about any appreciation for MQM or it's faction. In fact they had betrayed Karachiiites in particular anc Sindh in general. The mammoth gathering at Liaquatabad is not a support to MQM(P) it is support to truth that yet again the Karachiites are betrayed, their rights usurped. It is a direct responsibility of Federal Govt to sooth the Karachiites, by holding a genuine census. If need arises they must again do the census, but do not award a chance to MQM(P) to exploit the people for their vested political interest.

Seats and resources, to be allocated according to the revenue generated ? This means, the Chaudhrys and Khans of the population, need have more say in this democracy as compared to poor peasants. I thought, in a democracy, every individual was counted as an equal. Also, could you tell me, what resources does Karachi generate ? Which are exported ? Cotton, no way, Vegetables, fruit, no way. Minerals (manganese, sulpher, marble,...), no way. Ceramics, no way. Karachi, just acts as the only conduit, for the exporters of Pakistan. After Gawadar, this status would be gone as well, if certain groups keep on behaving the same way.

What ever Farooq Sattar said is not wrong. Karachi alone generate the biggest part of revenue. However, it does not receive the development fund what it should be.

MQM was good when educated persons was participated in MQM but after some years new generation as like me 15-30 take interest in political views so some educated persons joined MQM for follow rules of PAKISTAN but there was also a majority and a big majority of uneducated youngers who think that "I can hold my area and make my name in wanted criminals and peoples feel fair by name etc such a crime hope these type of persons joined MQM because they thought that party gave them support and they start act on their evil dreams and after some years you can search to todays news but there is no benefit to arrests MQM's participation because educated persons stands with Mutahida till now and evils persons always change parties whose gave them support and they are ( criminals who joined Mutahida for their benefits ) are still relaxed and free but good educated peoples are getting arrest . And also there is a big problem that in party there were cast,firqaas views . I
