RAWALPINDI: A private security guard allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a rope tied to the ceiling at the house he was deployed at in Chaklala Housing Scheme III on Sunday, the police said.

Mehmood Hussein, 60, was deployed at a trader’s house four months ago.

He was found hanged from the ceiling in his room by a workman who was fixing tiles in the house and who had just returned from a lunch break. The workers had been ringing the doorbell for some time and when he did not get an answer, he jumped the wall and found the security guard dead in his room.

Sub-Inspector Inayat Ali, who is leading the investigation into the incident, told Dawn the victim had met with his employer at 11am before the latter left for work.

“He never discussed any problems with his employer nor did he have any enmity with anyone,” the sub-inspector said, adding that the victim was a resident of Kahuta. He said this seemed like a suicide but the real cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem.

In an unrelated incident, a couple was robbed of cash and gold by two unidentified, armed men in Dhoke Gangal in the limits of Airport police station on Sunday.

Shakeel Abbasi and his wife were going to the market in their car when they were stopped by two motorcycle riders and held at gunpoint. The couple were robbed of four gold bangles, a locket and a ring as well as the cash they had on them. The robbers managed to escape.
