Key accused in Tania Khaskheli murder case arrested, police say

Sehwan police on Saturday claimed to have arrested one of the main accused in the murder of Tania Khaskheli from the Darejo area of Balochistan.

Last Saturday — according to Tania's father, Ghulam Qadir Khaskheli — an influential wadera (feudal lord) of Jhangara Bajara town, Khan Noohani, along with his armed associates, had barged into the family's house and shot Tania dead.

The girl’s parents claimed that Khan had been pressing them to marry Tania to him, but they had turned down the proposal. They alleged that Khan had twice tried to kidnap the girl in the recent past.

On Saturday evening, they said, Khan, along with Maula Bukhsh Noohani and an unknown person, barged into their house and attempted to intimidate them with their weapons. They alleged that the armed men tried to take the girl away, but on strong resistance put up by the family, Khan got furious and shot dead Tania.

The family had said last Sunday that an FIR against Khan Noohani, Maula Bukhsh and the unknown person was lodged at the Jhangara Bajara police station, but the suspects were threatening them with dire consequences if the case was not withdrawn.

They had complained that police had not arrested the suspects immediately due to their political influence.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, along with Inspector General A.D. Khowaja, had on Friday visited the family and condoled Tania's death with her parents and other relatives.

The family and other residents of the neighbourhood told the CM that the area police were aware of the whereabouts of the killer but they did not lay hands on him as he was being protected by some influential figures of the area. He was informed that the murder and police’s reluctance to arrest the killer triggered a series of protests by civil society organisations in different parts of the province.

The CM had ordered the immediate arrest of the killer, as well the SHO of the area for his failure to act promptly to save her life.

The SHO was nabbed Friday evening.

Police have now said they have arrested Maula Bukhsh during a raid. The prime accused, Khan Noohani, remains at large.

Tania was murdered by a wadera and his accomplices for refusing a marriage proposal. _ Politcians and police may not take this seriously, and Pakistanis may not take me seriously but land grabbing - and events just like this one led to the Mexican Revolution of 1901. The peasants defeated the Mexican army, not once but twice.

Now the murderer is caught, will he be trialed in court and punished or money and influence will play a part. And he will be allowed to escape or let go free? Justice must prevail and culprit must be punished according to his crime!

The poor girl was murdered in front of her parents These poor people brought up this young girl with their sweat and blood only to be seen killed brutally in front of their eyes .We know very well what will happen. The killers will exert pressure on the family, threaten them. Then even if they don't budge in the case will go on for years. Appeals after appeals. The family will loose money and yet be forced again. The judge will be bribed and we Pakistan's will forget all about it in a couple months. No one will know what happened. Justice will hardly happen and even if it does it will take at least a decade. The parents may be dead by then. This case and numerous other like these should be dealt with in a week time. Hang the culprit in a week in front of the parents or better still In front of the whole country.

@alba : Also gave prominence to Hugo Chavez of Venezuela in modern time. When we have a justice system free of labels like " poor, peasant and influential " from our society. Everyone knows the solution. Sadly no one in power has any will to rectify this serious problem

They alleged that Khan had twice tried to kidnap the girl in the recent past....this is the typical modus operandi of wadera...he was caught because the influential PPP MNA not in good book with the top leadership..

@Anti-Corruption_Pakistan: ONE accused, Maula Bukhsh Noohani, has been arrested. The chief suspect, Khan Noohani, is still at large. If convicted, these "waderas" should forfeit parts of their property to the victim's family--as a deterrent measure. But property will not bring back Tania.

Nothing will happen for sure, some months ago in the village (very near to Tania's home) the landlord's daughter left her home with his poor cousin in love, they find them near pindi i think, got them both at village and killed brutally. Then just girl's brother was arrested for some days and everything gone back normal. They r too much powerful. No law for them as yet is.

Finally, the main accused in the much hyped case of Tania Khaskheli has been booked by the police. The major task is to take the case to it's logical conclusion which must end at the execution of the thugs. Further, the family of the late girl must be protected from all threats and odds. However, the killers must be punished at all cost whether the family forgives them or not. Because most of the time, family forgives such cases out of undue influence and coercive measures. Let's make the exemplary for all to come so that now Tania Khaskheli is murdered in the future course of our history.
