Sarfraz bags Outstanding Player of the Year at PCB Awards 2017 in Lahore

Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won big at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Awards 2017 ceremony on Thursday, bagging the title of Outstanding Player of the Year.

The ceremony attended by both Pakistani and World XI cricket players in Lahore honoured current and former Pakistani cricketers for their achievements.

PCB Award winners:

Babar Azam: ODI Player of the Year
Yasir Shah: Best Test Player of the Year
Imad Wasim: Best T20 Player of the Year
Hassan Ali, Shadab Khan: Emerging Player of the Year

Former skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, who was present at the ceremony, received the Imtiaz Ahmed Spirit Award named after the former great who was part of Pakistan's first Test team.

PCB Chairman Najam Sethi announced that awards of Rs10 million each for Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi would be donated to the Edhi Foundation since the two former cricketers had not attended the ceremony.

Responding to the announcement, Shahid Afridi thanked Sethi and said: "Nothing better then supporting this noble cause."

Vowing to hold the awards every year, Sethi said that the awards should have been held every year since their inception but for some reason had not been organised recently.

That is the difference btw mentally and emotionally unstable players like Younis and Afridi who were brilliant on the field but failed the leadership when it mattered. Who doesn't feel neglected and ignored by every employers and PCB under Sethi and Shaharyar has tried to be upright and helpful...Younis and Afridi as always have showed lack of maturity and leadership when it matters. Misbah we will miss you the most but no doubt there will not be another player like Boom Boom and Younis but they should class and come to the ceremony.

@Riaz Ahmed correct yourself these two great cricketers always played with true spirit for their country. They are true patriots and Pakistan can never produce players like younas and Afridi. They are not greedy unlike the players from Punjab who are selling the honor of Pakistan for money. These great two souls are thirsty for honor and respect which from a person like sethi one can never expect

What a lucky these players are, enjoying tours and getting money in millions while Doctors and Engineers in Pakistan looking for jobs to survive by hand to mouth, After studying for 20 years day and night they have to find references to get a job of Rs 60,000 to Rs.70,000

@Muhammad not really. Most professional cricketers in Pakistan dont even make rs 20000 per month. There are only less than 11 top players who make in millions just like some successful doctors and engineer who make in millions. Also keep in mind that these cricketers are only playing few games every year and can be kicked out of team any time. But I do agree with you that doctors and engineer are strugling in this country.

@Muhammad Doctors and Engineers need to take up playing cricket. Someone has missed a trick. I agree with your comments, though. Over hyped players earning what they can. They are not going to refuse the commercial gains. Does anyone play for prestige anymore?

@Ahmed The problem is too many players are not being changed. PCB has a track record of sticking with failing players. When the cricket team wins one-off tournaments every few years they are rewarded to an extreme as if they are "gods" of cricket. There is no perceptive between present achievement and longer term cricket gains. Where is the investment? Its simply folly. How many award ceremonies can you have?
