Controversial verdict

Published September 13, 2017

THIS is apropos your editorial ‘A controversial verdict’ (Sept 1). You appeared dismayed on the decision of this high-profile murder. But what surprised me was the headline of the editorial, although you have admitted the case was “controversially investigated and prosecuted.”

The court has to decide the case according to the merit of the evidence. What could the court do when nobody, even the heirs of the deceased, were interested to pursue the case?

Asif Ali Zardari had told us about the expected decision a few days ago in a TV interview. When asked if he was satisfied with the progress of the case and what were his expectations, he referred to the murder of John F. Kennedy, adding that the man blamed for the murder of the US president was later declared as not the real murderer.

He also indicated that Benazir murder case decision was coming within days. It looked as if he was in full knowledge of the decision before its announcement.

All said and ‘heard’ we too are disappointed with the decision. The manner in which the authorities took up this case of a national leader is disappointing.

The nation wants this conspiracy exposed.
