Bounce Club clinch third basketball title

KARACHI: Fancied Bounce Club rout Arambagh Club by 6-3 point in extra time after being tied 39-all in regulation time to win the Independence Day basketball tournament at the latter’s floodlit court on Sunday evening.

The winners, who won the first quarter 10-8 lost the second 6-10 to trail 16-18 at half time. Again, Bounce Club was at the receiving end as they trailed 29-33 after the third quarter before bouncing back to win the fourth 10-6 and drew leve at 39-all. However, in the five minute extra time, Bounce Club scored six points as against three mustered by Arambagh Club to win the battle by 45-42 points.

The triumph gave Bounce Club their third title of the year, the previous two being Inter-club contest where they defeated Nishtar Club and the SSB Ramazan Cup where they thumped against Neighbourhood Club.

Bounce Club’s victory revolved around Mubashir who caught the eye with 20 points. Hassan contributed eight.

Daniyal, Raj and Asad turned out to be the main scorers for the losers with 15, 10 and nine points respectively.

Senior director Sports, Culture and Recreation, KMC, Syed Saif Abbas Hasani graced the final and gave away the prizes. Leader of the house, DMC South, Habib Hasan Baloch, basketball officials former international Abdul Nasir, Ghulam Mohammad were among others who were also present on the occasion. Ton-up Faizan stars in Daud event

KARACHI: Opener Mohammad Faizan Khan Bari struck a fine century as Taimuria Sports sealed a 56-run victory over Orangi United CC in their KCCA Zone-VI Daud Khan Memorial Cricket Tournament fixture here on Sunday.

Faizan hit 114 with six boundaries and one six to help his side collect 240-8 in their 40 overs at the KCCA Stadium. Mohammad Amir scored 68 with six fours.

Orangi United CC were all out for 184 in 37.2 overs despite Farhad Hameed making 75 (12 fours).

In another match at the Lawai Cricket Stadium in Naya Nazimabad, Ravi Gymkhana beat Orangi Star by 86 runs.

Owais knock in vain

KARACHI: Despite a superb 81 from opener Mohammad Owais, New United Gymkhana suffered a seven-run defeat against Qazafi Gymkhana in the first Mohammad Siddique Memorial Cricket Tournament fixture at the New United Gymkhana Ground here the other day.

Owais’s 79-ball included five boundaries, while Mohammad Farhan contributed 60 off 70 balls with four fours as the pair added 110 for the second wicket.

New United Gymkhana made 209-7 in their stipulated 30 overs while chasing 216.

Qazafi Gymkhana’s total of 216-9 was built around Naved Anum’s 74 off 34 balls with eight boundaries and one six. Paceman Mohammad Sharafat grabbed three wickets for 25 runs and off-spinner Mohammad Izham took 3-33.

Nine Pakistanis to compete in Asia-Pacific Golf

KARACHI: Nine amateur golfers from Pakistan will travel to Australia to compete in the Asia-Pacific Senior Amateur Golf Championship being held from Oct 18 to 20.

The three-day event is preceded by practice round on Oct 17. Pakistan team will fly to Adelaide on Oct 13.

The Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) secretary retired Brig Nayyar Afzal will captain the team in the biennial event.

It is pertinent to mention that the PGF official won the senior amateurs title in the 56th Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan held at the Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DACGC) last month.

He returned with a 54-hole aggregate of 233, 17 over par, with the scores of 80, 71, 82 to win honours by one shot over Raja Asif Mehdi.

Peshawar Red reach semis

PESHAWAR: A brace in the dying minutes by striker Khalid Khan saw Peshawar Red overcome a strong Malakand side 2-1, their third straight victory sealing a berth in the semi-finals of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inter-District Football Championship on Monday.

After Maroof gave Malakand an early lead, heading in a cross by Sajid, here at the Sumbal Khan Football Ground, Khalid scored twice in the space of seven minutes to give Peshawar Red a 2-1 lead by the 69th and they held on for victory.—Bureau Report

Dar Hockey Academy lose

LAHORE: Dar Hockey Academy went down fighting 3-5 against Oranje-Rood Hockey Club in its tour of Holland, according to information received on Monday.

Oranje-Rood is one of the leading clubs of Holland and it was their first defeat of the tour after three straight victories for Dar Academy. For the home side, Van der Horst scored two, while Rijkers, Galema and Van der Schoot entered one goal each. For Dar, Mohammad Usman netted two goals while Wasim Akram chipped in with one goal.
