LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman retired Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain says 1,410MW Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project will complete in a phased manner from February to May 2018.

“We are confi dent to complete Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project in a phased manner from February 2018 to May 2018,” he said in a meeting with the senior project offi - cials during his visit to the site on Saturday.

However, he added, the steady efforts on the part of the project management, including the consultants and the contractors, were needed to meet the timeline vis-à-vis implementation of the project.

“I hope the project management would put in their maximum for the purpose,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Hussain reviewed construction progress on various components of the project, including intake structure, powerhouse, switch yard etc.

The project authorities and representatives of the consultants and the contractors briefed the Wapda chairman on the progress achieved so far on civil and electromechanical works of the project.

Detailed deliberations were also made about the steps to meet challenges faced by the project during the visit.

The project is a component of leastcost energy generation plan, which is being implemented by Wapda.

Under Tarbela 4th Extension Project, three generating units – each having capacity of 470MW – are being installed at Tunnel No.4 of Tarbela Dam.

With completion of the project, generation capacity of Tarbela Hydel Power Station will increase to 4,888MW from the existing 3,478MW.
