CHAKWAL: Three people, including a 12-year-old boy, were gunned down over an old enmity near Jasiyal village in the jurisdiction of the Talagang Saddar police on Saturday morning.

A two-year-old child and a woman were also injured.

Police said Ghulam Ali, 85, his wife Mobarak Bibi, 80, son Shabbir Haider, 36, grandson Zeeshan Haider, 12, and a minor grandson Usman Haider left the village for their hamlet of Dhoke Qazi on two motorbikes.

As they were passing through a deserted area, they were ambushed by four armed men.

As a result, Ghulam Ali, his son Shabbir and grandson Zeeshan died on the spot while Shabbir’s two-year- old son received a bullet injury to his leg and Mobarak Bibi was injured after falling from the bike.

The police have registered a case against Rub Nawaz, Haq Nawaz, Ameer and Matloob. However, they are yet to be arrested.

A police official said the two groups were relatives.

“The enmity emerged between the two families three decades ago when Adalat Khan, the elder brother of Rub Nawaz, killed Ghulam Hassan, the elder brother of Ghulam Ali. In retaliation, Ghulam Ali gunned down Jangli Khan, the father of Adalat Khan and Rub Nawaz. Rub Nawaz, got multiple bullet injuries to his arm,” a villager told Dawn.

However, after a few years reconciliation was reached between the two families. A few days ago, members of the two families exchanged harsh words which resulted into the Saturday triple murders.

SHO Mohammad Afzal told Dawn: “We are trying to trace the accused after registering a case on the complaint of Munshi Khan, the son of Ghulam Ali.”
