At least 35 students injured in Quaid-i-Azam University clash

Two students groups at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) clashed on Saturday, at least leaving 35 students injured, said officials.

Police, called in by the university administration, resorted to teargas shelling and baton charge to disperse the enraged students.

However, police personnel failed to bring the situation under control, prompting the authorities to involve Rangers personnel.

Injured students were rushed to Poly Clinic Hospital. Around 25 injured students were allowed to go back after treatment, said the administration.

The university administration has announced to keep the institution closed for the upcoming week. Hostels in the campus are also being got vacated.

Why don't the university ban every political outfit present in it. These students thinks that university is an Akhada not an education centre. Punish the culprits and throw the students out who misbehave. Pls let there be some sanity be there in colleges and universities.

I thought Punjab University Lahore was the centre of hooliganism, now it has spread all over.Parents who are sending their kids to these universities, paying all the expenses should step in. Political parties use these student organisations for their vested interests, they are not interested in the welfare of the students.

The situation in Pakistan's universities is not so good under the Nawaz Sharif administration. He has not mobilized any clerics to even attempt to solve the problem.

For God sake, stop political activities in Colleges and Universities. This is ruining the students who come to study. Although the political parties want a breeding ground for their party workers. It does more harm than good. In fact why do we need to politicized our education institution is to serve the vested interest of the influential political class. These politicians kids are studying abroad, where they are sent to become the prime minister whereas these kids who come to study in Pakistan ruin their education and future by either indulging directly or being affected indirectly .

It's very unfortunate that this is happening again and again at places for learning. In the developed world, students involved in any kind of physical threat, mob violence, fights are immediately expelled. Government should doing the same, and you will never have to deal situation like these.

Kick out all those responsible....people should be coming here to study not make a living! Shameful and university security needs to be reassessed based on these events. Perhaps police could have a permanent presence or the University security teams need to be strengthened. Either way strict action against all those responsible will mean that such people will think twice before embarking on such activities in the future.

Its time to grow to full size especially the students of universities all around pakistan. The behavoir of regional hatred should be curbed and the students should accept the each others. Quaid e azam university is top university of pakistan and nonetheless students are behaving like adolescents. If such an attitude persists, there's no need of enemy. I appeal to other councils, which are representative bodies of all the regions- Gilgit, pashtoon, saraiki, etc, to build a concensus to put a halt to such an activity, which is being ignited by external agents. Our progress lies in how we utilize and cash our regional, ethnic and sectarian differences.

This will keep happening until strict measures are taken against culprits. Restrict their admission to any university for years to understand the laws. How long this will continue? This is defaming our institutions reputation and causing losses in foreign add /student enrollment.

It's a good university with some really world class/educated distinguished professors, sad to see this happening, but what can say when leadership of the country is like Zardari/Nawaz loot and now kiddos getting ready Seriously smh??? These so call leadership has to end or else Pakistan will become more and more poor with 400 million people target coming soon and these people are just looting the nation like no tomorrow.
