Star Wars-theme parks in Disneyland

Disney and Lucasfilm have given fans a behind-the-scenes look at their plans for the upcoming Star Wars-themed lands being created at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

The clip includes concept art for the area which will include two new rides along with shops, shows, activities and various Star Wars characters. The theme parks will be a new location being introduced into the Star Wars cannon for the first time.

“Our goal as we set out on this journey was to create a place that was so authentic, so real that when our guests step inside they’re there, they’re in the movie,” adds executive creative director at Walt Disney Imagineering Chris Beatty.

U-shaped skyscraper for New York skyline

New York is renowned for its iconic buildings so it feels quite fitting that a building as audacious as ‘The Big Bend’ has been envisioned for the Manhattan skyline.

The drawings, which at this stage are conceptual, propose a u-bend shaped skyscraper looking out over Central Park. Described as the ‘longest building in the world’ by its designers, the drawings detail how the building would reach an apex before curving back down.

It will have an elevator system that can travel through curves which would be used to traverse the building. The design was dreamt up by design studio Oiio to get around New York City’s difficult zoning laws. The studio explained: “New York city’s zoning laws have created a peculiar set of tricks through which developers try to maximise their property’s height in order to infuse it with the prestige of a high rise structure.
