SHEIKHUPURA: A senior advocate was gunned down by two assailants in city’s Hiran Minar Road area on Tuesday.

Alia Shahzadi was waiting for a conveyance just outside her home along Hiran Minar Road to reach the District Courts when two persons on motorbike opened fire on her and fled. She died on the spot.

As the news of the lawyer’s murder got round, the District Bar Association condemned the incident and announced strike. Speaking to the media, the Bar president, Mian Saeed, deplored the lawlessness and demanded arrest of the perpetrators.

Sources said the mother of two had got divorce from her husband some time ago. She contracted second marriage against the wishes of her family and her former husband and members of her family were forcing her to get divorce from the man of her choice, they said. They said her ex-husband had been in Dubai for the last three years.

The Saddar police registered a case against three people, including Saleem, a brother of the woman’s former husband. Police said they would investigate the case from different angles and arrest the killers soon.
