FAISALABAD: A gang of robbers plundered valuables from the house of two policemen brothers and subjected members of their family to torture at Chak-4 Ramdewali in the Nishatabad police jurisdiction on Monday night.

More than 10 robbers entered the house in guise of policemen and took away hundred of thousands of rupees, gold ornaments and other valuables.

House owner Zahid, a police constable, suffered a bullet injury while his parents Allah Rakha and Safia Bibi were injured by robbers using clubs. Ali, a resident of the village, told Dawn that the family had asked Qasim Ali, 12, to lock the door around 9:30pm.

He said club-wielding robbers barged into the house claiming themselves to be policemen. Immediately after entering the house of Zahid and Babar, policemen serving in Faisalabad, the robbers started thrashing the house occupants.

He said the robbers opened fire injuring Zahid and also injured his parents by clubbing them. They were brought to the Allied Hospital, where the condition of all of them was stated to be out of danger, he said.

Some other villagers said they were under the impression that there was some clash and the firing was a result of that.

They said that a few months ago, some people from Chiniot had resorted to aerial firing here because of their monetary dispute with a local and many people thought that the two parties had once again clashed.

Police said an investigation into the issue had been initiated and the gangsters would be arrested soon.

Meanwhile, the villagers protested what they said slackness of the police and urged City Police Officer Afzaal Ahmed Kausar to take action against the negligent officials as the robbery had frightened the locals.
