ISLAMABAD: Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of the Islamabad Police arrested a ringleader of a gang involved in robberies and killings on Monday, police said.

The police said a team of CIA during investigation of a case succeeded in identifying and tracing the gang and arrested its ringleader, besides recovering weapon from him.

The suspect is an Afghan national and a native of Jalalabad, they stated, adding that during preliminary investigation, he confessed to killing a man in an attempt to snatch a purse from him at I-10 Markaz on April 27, 2013.

He and his other accomplices were involved in several robberies and firing incidents in areas of Sabzi Mandi, Industrial Area police stations, the police added. Efforts were also in progress to trace and arrest his other accomplices, they added.

Meanwhile, the capital police along with Pakistan Rangers and other security agencies on Monday combed bus terminals at Faizabad, hotels, inns and guest houses, police said.
