Burning garbage

Published March 21, 2017

I LIVE in Bhittai Colony, Korangi Crossing, Karachi. There is a bund in the locality full of trees where various birds once used to build their nests. Many people also used to visit this green belt for recreation and jogging.

However, about five years back the KMC and the Cantonment Board of Clifton (CBC) started dumping garbage here. They would also set fire to the garbage so as to get rid of it. Birds started building their nests elsewhere and people stopped coming here.

Both the agencies get money from the government to dump the garbage out of the city. However, instead of doing so they burn it on a regular basis, spreading smoke and toxic chemicals. Altaf Town and E-Sector of Bhittai Colony are badly affected by this. Many people have become allergic due to the pollution.

The Supreme Court should take strict action against both the KMC and the CBC.
