SIALKOT: Badiana police claimed to have identified the body of a youth found on Feb 1 as that of a boy who was allegedly killed by the family of a girl he was friends with on a social networking website for a year.

District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Abid Khan claimed that Gujranwala-based Sharoon Maseeh, 22, had developed a relationship with Sambrial-based Naila Maseeh, 26, on Facebook a year ago.

Sharoon’s family told police that both families were aware of their relationship. the girl and her family had called Sharoon over to their house in Sambrial around two months ago on the pretext of discussing their marriage. Sharoon had been missing since then, his family claimed.

The DPO added that Badiana police had found a man’s body near village Langey-Manjkey in Pasrur tehsil here on Feb 1. The body was thought to have been dumped there after murder.

He said on Sunday police officials identified the body with the help of the National Database and Registration Authority through fingerprints. Sharoon’s family also identified the body as their son’s. The family alleged that Sharoon had been murdered by the girl’s family.

Police claimed the girl had fled to Nepal and some of her family members fled from their house. They further alleged that her brother Sagar alias Munna Maseeh had been killed in an encounter near Kharian in 2016.

Sources said police had arrested some members of the girl’s family and started an investigation after registering a case.

FUGITIVE: Badiana police claimed to have arrested near Islamabad a murderer who was on the run for 11 years.

DPO Dr Khan claimed that Faisalabad-based Shakeel Shah had shot dead five members of a family over an old enmity in Badiana, Pasrur tehsil on March 23, 2006.

He had been on the run since then and was allegedly living in various places in Islamabad, Taxila and Rawalpindi under different identities.

He added that a police team raided the outskirts of Islamabad and arrested Shah and sent him behind bars. He said Shah was also wanted in several other cases of extortion and kidnapping.

The DPO announced cash prizes and appreciation certificates for the raiding police team.
