LAHORE: The Kinnaird College for Women celebrated an achievement of International Centre of Pakistani Writing in English (ICPWE) on Wednesday.

The Last Tea, a poetry collection by the centre’s director Dr Athar Tahir, has been awarded the Patras Bukhari Award, the highest national accolade for literature in English. This was announced by the Pakistan Academy of Letters recently, a press release issued on Wednesday stated.

Dr Rukhsana David, principal of the college, while welcoming the guests highlighted the factors that led to the founding of the ICPWE. Eric Massey, the chief guest, spoke on the role literature and arts could play to spread tolerance and enlightenment.

Dr Muhammad Qasim Bughio, chairperson of the Pakistan Academy of Letters; Nasreen Pasha, head of the English Department at Kinnaird; Dr Waseem Anwar of Forman Christian College University; and Prof Ayesha F Barque of Punjab University also spoke on the occasion.

The event was attended by academics, students and people from the literary world.
