LAHORE: Barry’s came from behind to register a thrilling 8-7½ victory against spirited Army/Momin Ghee in the Hamdan Holdings Aibak Polo Cup here at the Lahore Polo Club (LPC) ground on Wednesday.

George Meyrick was phenomenal producing five goals to play the leading role in Barry’s victory. His team-mate Hamza Mawaz Khan struck two while Raja Samiullah scored one.

Manuel Toccalino banged in four goals while Ahmed Zubir Butt added one for Army/Momin Ghee who had a 2½ goal handicap.

The losing side increased their lead to 3½-0 when Toccalino registered a fine field goal in the opening chukker. Barry’s bounced back magnificently in the dying moments of the first chukker, scoring a brace through George Meyrick to reduce the deficit to 3½-2.

Barry’s continued their dominance in the second chukker too and added two more goals to take a 4-3½ lead, which however couldn’t last long as Army’s Toccalino again struck a tremendous goal to help his team edge 4½-4 ahead.

The third chukker proved a one-sided affair and saw total dominance of the losing side as they hit three goals to establish a firm 7½-4 lead. While Toccalino scored two, Ahmed Zubair netted one.

At this stage when Army were in full control, Barry’s launched a superb comeback adding four goals — two each from Meyrick and Hamza Mawaz — in the last chukker to turn the tables on the opponents.
