LAHORE: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mushtaq Sukhera has directed the authorities to enhance checking of all kinds of vehicles and people crossing inter-provincial checkposts.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting held at Central Police Office (CPO) on Monday. Additional Inspector General (AIG) Operations and Investigation Arif Nawaz, AIG (Punjab Highway Patrol) Amjad Javed Saleemi, AIG (Welfare and Finance) Shoaib Dastagir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, DIG IT Shahid Hanif, AIG (Development) Kamran Khan, AIG (Operations) Waqar Abbasi, AIG (Logistics) Humayun Bashir Tarar, AIG (Monitoring) Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani and AIG (Complaints) Syed Khurram Ali were also present on the occasion.

The IGP directed police officials to take prompt action without discrimination against those unable to prove their identity. He further said that daily briefing of staff working in remote areas should be ensured regarding search of vehicles and people, especially officials working on checkposts in Attock, Mianwali, Bhakkar and Rawalpindi.

He also said officials should carefully check all vehicles and persons passing through these checkposts, adding that women clad in burqas should also be checked.

He directed the AIG (complaints) to take strict action against the deputy superintendents of police and station house officers who failed to respond to complaints registered at the helpline 8787.

He also directed the AIG to monitor progress on complaints daily and present a weekly performance report to him.

AIG Saleemi briefed the meeting about the measures taken at checkposts. He claimed that 31 stolen vehicles and motorcycles had been recovered during checking at inter-provincial checkposts from Jan 1 to Feb 19. A “most-wanted criminal” was also arrested from Mianwali, he claimed.

He further said that all inter-provincial checkposts were being monitored online at the CPO where performance of officials and their behaviour with the public was particularly monitored.

The IGP directed the AIG (monitoring) to seek daily reports regarding performance of personnel deployed at checkposts and submit a fortnightly report to him. Officials showing excellent performance should be encouraged on every level, he added.
