KARACHI: After vetting draft of the Mental Health Authority for about three years, the Sindh government has issued a notification establishing the institution keeping in view the poor mental health services available in the province.

The notification issued by the health department citing clause 3(3)(vii) of the Sindh Mental Health Act, 2013, said that five eminent psychiatrists and psychologist were being nominated to establish the institution.

Since the act provides for nomination of six such psychiatrists and psychologist by the government for the 14-member authority, the department issued another notification on Feb 7 nominating its chief psychiatrist, Dr Ajmal Mughal, as the sixth founding member.

Speaking to Dawn, Dr Mughal said that the institution’s first meeting would be convened shortly.
