Digging up roads

Published February 5, 2017

KARACHI is the largest and densely populated city of Pakistan. As the population is burgeoning, the number of cars is also increasing and most areas of the city are badly affected by traffic jams.

This traffic mayhem has been worsened owing to the rebuilding of roads all over the city. While this has created serious traffic issues and congestion, it has also created environmental pollution.

Almost all main roads have been dug up simultaneously for repairs. There is no planning and no alternative routes.

Repairs are no doubt necessary but the authorities should have made proper diversions before starting these projects. They should also start constructing roads one by one.

All roads should be monitored regularly so that repairs can be carried whenever any road needs it.
