Pakistan Super League holds replacement draft after foreign players drop out

A replacement draft for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 edition was held today after several foreign players dropped out of the competition due to injuries, unavailability, international commitments or bans, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a press release.

Team managements of four out of the five franchises participated in the replacement draft.

Karachi Kings was the only franchise absent as it had been unaffected by the dropouts. Kings have given their consent to the picks made by the other franchises, the notification stated.

Islamabad United decided to retain West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell in their team, even though Russell currently awaits clearance after a hearing in a doping case. The verdict is expected within a fortnight.

If the player is banned, Islamabad will be given the option to immediately replace him, the PCB said.

Lahore Qalandars were forced to make three changes to their squad, as were Peshawar Zalmi. Zalmi have withheld one pick, which they will make within the next 24 hours.

Last year’s runner-up Quetta Gladiators made four changes to their line-up.

@Khan , really? Afghanistan are playing a series against Zimbabwe which wasn't part of original FTP hence no Afghan player will be available to play. Bangladesh also have a series coming up hence their players are unavailable too. Alex Hales, Bravo, Russell, Willey, Shaun Tait and Devich are inured while few West Indies players have been asked to play in domestic cricket if they want to get selected in national side. Franchises have inducted players like Jason Roy, Moeen Ali, Dilshan, Franklin, Marlon Samuels , Rossow and Parera are inducted as replacement players. Same thing happens everywhere in world including IPL where players have to lave before or during the season for international commitment or injury concerns. I am personally delighted to see Jason Roy playing for Lahore as he is a brilliant ball striker.

@Anupam ravi , It's normal in leagues throughout the world. I think a lot of English players only play first half of IPL as English season starts back home in early may. PSL isn't a 2 month long event hence franchises can't hire players for 1,2 matches. England players like Morgan, Roy and Moeen Ali will play the first half of PSL till 21th february due to national commitments hence they will need to be replaced but that will be forced. We can't expect anyone to skip their national duties for a private league.

How come all international players are fully fit and available for IPL and other leagues but when it comes down to PSL, we start hearing these excuses. I believe it about time when PSL has to increase the payouts to players matching close to IPL and than we will see a totally different turn around from International players.

These money making tournaments have spoiled the players, players are now getting greedy, they don't get enough rest in between series so that they can get their energy back, now they are getting injured, they look tired, and performance is not improving. Everyone wants to make money Board, players, sponsors, no one cares about fans and country

As much as a hero JJ may be to some/many in Pakistan, it will be interesting to see if the powers that be discipline Imran Tahir for an overt political statement in exposing a tee-shirt with the visage of JJ on it? There should be no place for stuff such as this in sport because one person's hero may be another's villain. Where does one drawn the line?

@Ali K, IPL's highest pay check is $2.25 million for Virat Kohli. This is the total budget of PSL. Other star players get more than 1 million each season.

@hanif There are Football clubs too and people enjoy watching matches which is only for profit making but still has same thrill. No game can survive without money. Similar to Football matches cricket also will start having only few world tournaments and then few clubs.

Even if free FTP software the cost to set it up and manage is too much. On the other hand, Binfer can be run on any computer without separate server or client components. See FTP replacement.

@Karan, PSL 1 had higher TV ratings in than any Pakistan-India world cup match. It's a product for Pakistan and we loved it so I doubt we care less for what people in Mumbai talk about PSL. BTW PSL wasn't telecasted in India hence PSL's top internet viewers were from India. :)
