THIS refers to the news item ‘Gas crisis worsens in Punjab’. The government has decided to take stern action against those using compressors for gas suction that deprives others of the resource. Such plans were often made earlier but did not work as the authorities involved allegedly took bribes and let the problem continue.

There is a similar problem with water connections. The government laid new pipelines to supply water to Lahore residents and instructed the contractors to have one connection per one water and sanitation bill. But some residents with links to the authorities appear to have hijacked the plan.

Authorities should implement the plan strictly, and punish the culprits so that nobody should be above the law.
