Railway accident

Published January 11, 2017

THIS refers to the railway accident in Punjab in which seven children died and five were injured. There have been several fatal railway accidents in the past but we never saw any official tendering resignation.

Whenever you raise a question about railways performance, you will hear ‘conspiracy against democracy’. Sadly, had railway minister Saad Rafique paid more time to his own work, instead of defending his party’s leadership, one might have seen more improvement in Pakistan Railways.

While both PPP and PML-N claim to be democratic, their governments are tainted with corruption. The PPP obliged their near and dear ones, installing them on key positions and the PML-N followed suit. To make matters worse, the incumbent government is not even ready for presenting itself for accountability.

Considering the PML-N’s record, it is useless to even expect an honest inquiry into the latest railway tragedy. We can only pray for the victims.
