After Australia series,they will go further down,I don't think so they will be able to improve their performance.

Pakistan totally deserve it, as they are not Top Quality Cricket Team. Congrats PCB for doing an excellent job in putting us in our rightful place. I agree, after Australia we should be number 7 or 8 and similar to ODI situation where won't be allowed to play any test cricket before you know. Not surprised at all, keep up the corrupt ways and to those who thinks our Team is great there is your reality check. To be honest I am not surprised but i was surprised when we became No #1 since we are not number one team at all.

@naveed,USA Naveed you are quite naive if you think we need performance Improvement, the solution to the problem is a selection of the players based on merit, not some parchi system. Till that happen nothing will change just like the entire country

Mismanagement of players is the problem.managers bring in other interests over performance i.e they get disappointed with loosing teams. crowd interests

@ Pakistan First.. It is performance.. We haven't produced any world class batsmen since ages. Now also the bowling is not like the way it use to be... Very Sub par....The parchi system has always been there.. the question is that you don't have players like Virat Kholi on side benches raring for a Go... We try 5 new comers that fail miserably then we go back to our old senior players and we fail miserably.. Time to improve .. MUST cleanup PCB and improve the domestic infrastructure ... results will start automatically pouring after 7 to 8 years.. Problem is we should have invested in this when inzi retired sadly we didn't and are still relying on our OLD 40+ age players to safe our cricket and they are doing nothing but building up their retirement accounts.

Loosing a series to a team like NZ in 31 years is disgusting and is a reflection of Coach's competence. Fans are angry, and like to hear what he has to say. I think he needs to resign on moral grounds.

@PAKISTAN FIRST - prophecy of doom or what, with fans like you who needs our neighbours! Pak shouldn't have lost the last match and serious questions should be asked of the team management and selectors. However, to say Pak didn't deserve 1st position or their ranking is ridiculous! Pak has been playing in UAE, which isn't home or allows our domestic game to grow with no cricket at home.. On the contrary, I'd say the fact Pak are still competing at the top level says something about their character in very tough times!

If Pakistan lose to Australia than Pakistan would reach their target (and deserved) ranking of 7th.

For instance, these are the result of series Pakistan played as away game during last 3 years: 2012/13: SL in SL: Pakistan played 2 matches and drew the series (0-0). ... 2012/13: SA in SA: Played 3 matches and lost the series (0-3). ... 2013-14: Zimb in Zimb: Played 2 matches and drew the series (1-1) ... 2014: SL in SL: Played 2 matches and lost the series (0-2) ... 2015: BD in BD: Played 2 matches and won the series (1-0) ... SL and SL: Played 3 matches and won the series (2-1). ... Eng in Eng: Played 4 matches and drew the series (2-2). ... NZ in NZ: Played 2 matches and lost the series (0-2). So in last 3 yrs: Pakistan played 20 matches away. Won 6, lost 11 and drew 3. ... Played 8 series. Won 2 (against SL and BD), Lost 3, and drew 3.

@Shazad Nice cherry picking. Ratings are based on all matches, not just away games. In fact home or away games are given equal weight, which may not be fair, but that is how the system works. Considering the fact that Pakistan has not played in Pakistan since 2009 makes it highly commendable they reached Number 1, albiet briefly. Pakistan should be justifiably proud of this achievement. Not sure what your issue is...

@Yousuf accept the facts .Pakistan defeated only bangladesh and srilanka in previous years test series.
