KARACHI: Wapda carved out a 2-1 victory over National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to qualify for final of the Premier Pakistan Cup nine-a-side hockey tournament at the Abdul Sattar Edhi Stadium on Saturday.

Asad Bashir opened Wapda’s account when he converted a penalty corner in the 16th minute while Atiq Arshal drew level, also off a penalty corner, in the 33rd minute.

Ijaz then scored the decisive goal in the 37th minute to steer his team into the final.

The PHF president retired Brig Khalid Sajjad Khokhar who arrived in the city earlier in the day, watched the first semi-final.

It is pertinent to mention that the bankers had topped Pool ‘A’ while Wapda finished runners-up in Pool ‘B’ after the league.

The second semi-final between Pool ‘B’ winners PIA and Pool ‘A’ runners-up Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) was in progress at the time of filing this report at 9:00pm.

The final is will be played on Sunday at 5.30pm. The title-decider will be preceded by the third position playoff at 4:00pm.

The Director General Rangers Sindh,

Major Gen Bilal Akbar, will grace the final.
