GUJRAT: Jhelum Assistant Commissioner (AC) Kanwal Batool on Tuesday seized at least 29,200 litres of adulterated milk being smuggled into the city from the neighbouring Mandi Bahauddin district.

The district administration then disposed of the seized milk in River Jhelum.

It was being transported in trucks and small tankers when the local administration, led by the AC, initiated raids at midnight that continued until the morning.

All trucks and tankers supplying milk to Jhelum were intercepted and samples checked on the spot. Most of the samples were found mixed with water and detergent.

AC Kanwal said the action against adulterated milk was taken on public complaints and would continue regularly.

shot dead: A known pottery manufacturer of the city was been shot dead by some unidentified assailants near Mehsam area along Gujrat-Bhimbher road in the precincts of Daulat Nagar police on Tuesday.

Chaudhary Naeem Akhtar, the vice president of all Pakistan Pottery Manufacturers Association, had left his house in Phulerwan area in the morning to collect some amount sent from abroad. Police said 10 bullets hit Akhtar.
