KARACHI: Improvement in security environment has raised the comfort level of foreign investors, according to the findings of a survey conducted by the Overseas Investors Chambers of Commerce and Industry (OICCI).

Overall survey results were considerably positive for Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, especially regarding major security risk and threats to business. However, foreign investors are still concerned about growing number of street crimes, especially in Karachi.

The survey, conducted in June, found nearly 90 per cent of the respondents believed that the general threats to the business have dropped as compared to the period before August 2013.

Moreover, 97pc respondents believed that security concerns have become less for general business, customer business, suppliers and employees. Besides, 87pc investors reported that their staff now feels more comfortable in their everyday commute to and from the workplace.

Another significant feedback from the survey was that more foreigners are now travelling to Pakistan and hardly any meeting is being held outside Pakistan because of security concerns.

OICCI President Shahab Rizvi commended the relevant authorities, especially Sindh Rangers and the Karachi Police, for playing a key role in improving law and order.

However, Mr Rizvi said foreign investors still consider security situation as their top concern in doing business in Pakistan.
