GWADAR: A prominent religious scholar of Makran and leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, Mufti Ehtishamul Haq, was gunned down along with his son in Tump area of Kech district on Sunday evening, security officials said.

Mufti Haq was travelling to his native village Asyiabad along with his son Maulana Shabbir Ahmed when his car came under fire in Kalaho area, Levies officials said.

They suffered multiple injuries and died.

Levies and FC personnel took the bodies to hospital.

“The attackers were riding a motorcycle,” a senior Levies official said.

The cause of the attack could not be ascertained immediately. Levies termed it an incident of targeted killing.

No one claimed responsibility for the assault.

Mufti Haq, a former chief of JUI-F in Makran, was running a seminary in Asyiabad where hundreds of students are enrolled.

The two will be laid to rest in their native area on Monday.
