LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif extended his stay in Lahore after coming down with fever, the media wing of the Prime Minister’s Office announced on Monday.

“The prime minister was due to travel to Islamabad on Tuesday morning, but due to an infection in one of the incisions in his leg, he is suffering from fever. Doctors are treating him for the infection,” the statement said, adding that the prime minister would travel to Islamabad as soon as his fever subsided.

A team from the Sharif Medical Complex, a healthcare facility owned by the Sharif family, has been attending to the prime minister since his return from London.

When asked an official told Dawn that no official engagements had been scheduled for the prime minister, so nothing had to be postponed or rescheduled.

He believed that the delay would not be more than a couple of days, but said that the doctors treating PM Sharif would have the final say.

The prime minister, however, is doing “routine file work” at his Raiwind residence, the official said.

PM Sharif returned to the country on July 9 after undergoing open-heart surgery on May 31 in London. He remained in the British capital for a total of 48 days.

The prime minister had left the country soon after the Panamagate scandal linked members of his family with offshore companies. Many had termed it an imprudent decision, as opposition parties were clamouring at the government’s door, seeking a probe into the ruling family’s finances.
