KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday suspended till July 4 the operation of a notification issued by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) that had barred televangelist and talk show host Aamir Liaquat from hosting his Ramazan show ‘Inam Ghar’ for three days on Geo Entertainment.

The order came on a constitutional petition filed by the TV channel against the Pemra order.

The bench also issued a notice to the deputy attorney general and directed the Pemra chairman to file his reply by the next date of hearing.

The regulatory authority had issued a show-cause notice after a June 6 episode that showed the re-enactment of a girl’s suicide, Pemra said.

In addition, the episode featured a guest who used abusive language while on air. The show-cause notice was issued on June 14.

Pemra reviewed an instalment of the show aired on June 25 in which a woman allegedly made “inappropriate remarks”.

A member from Pemra’s Council of Complaints also shared with his colleagues a video of Aamir Liaquat hugging a pole while singing a song.

Pemra said it had decided to act after receiving hundreds of complaints from viewers.

Geo Entertainment has sought 15 days to submit a reply regarding complaints about ‘Inam Ghar’.
