LAHORE: Policemen affected in the out-of-turn promotion case in Punjab gather at Badshahi Mosque on Wednesday (today) to weigh the option of agitation against their removal.

The reverted policemen have formed Rankers Association and also filed a review petition in the Supreme Court.

Association president Riaz Ali Shah told Dawn all the policemen hit by the apex court ruling had been invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday.

“We will announce our plan after a thorough discussion.”

He said more than 9,000 policemen, including some 2,000 of Lahore, had been made OSDs.

“All those retired officers, including those who laid down their lives in the line of duty, have been asked to return benefits they availed after their promotion because they have been reverted to lower ranks.”

Rankers Association office barriers include Guardian Umar Virk, President Riaz Ali Shah, Vice President Agha Nasir and General Secretary Zulfiqar Virk.
