KARACHI: A First-Information Report (FIR) was registered Tuesday against Aminul Haq, in-charge of Muttahida Qaumi Movement's media cell, for spreading propaganda against Rangers officials on social media.

The FIR was registered at the Azizabad Police Station against Haq under sections 499, 502 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) read with section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act on a complaint of Mohammad Ishaq, an official of Rangers Sachal wing.

"Aminul Haq is deliberately spreading venomous propaganda against Rangers personnel and officers from MQM's Nine Zero headquarters in Azizabad," the Rangers said in the FIR.

They accused the MQM official of spreading anti-Rangers video clips through social and electronic media.

In a video clip, which the Rangers claimed was produced by MQM's media cell against the director general Rangers, the army chief, the Inter-Services Intelligence chief and the corps commander Karachi, it is allegedly being said:

"Those who made us cry, we will now make that enemy cry."

Other types of objectionable material is also being published by Haq and his colleagues, Rangers claimed.

For a little over a year, MQM has been under the spotlight when it comes to the Rangers-led operation which has been underway in Karachi since Sept, 2013. In March 2015, Rangers personnel detained a number of MQM workers, including senior members such as Amir Khan, in a pre-dawn raid on the party's headquarters.

The raid, which prompted a protest by party activists, appeared to have symbolic significance in the Karachi operation.
