KARACHI: Army, who are trailing way behind the leaders Navy, created further dent when their shooters picked up one more gold medal in the centre fire pistol team event of the 23rd National Shooting Championship at the PN Shooting Range, Karsaz, on Thursday.

The rejuvenated soldiers thumped sailors by winning top honours in the team event after M. H. Tabassum had done Navy proud in the centre fire pistol individual competition.

Tabassum amassed a score of 572 to pick up the gold as M. Kabeer and M. Boota, both of Army, seized silver and bronze respectively the score being 568 and 562.

But Army fought with vigour to clinch the team gold with score of 1680 depriving Navy who collected 1674 score. The PAF took the bronze with a total of 1604.

Meanwhile, the sailors, who have completely monopolised the event, have took their tally to 46 medals – 24-14-8 (gold, silver and bronze) medals in the event which concludes on Saturday.

They are followed by Army who have collected 27 medals – 6-12-9 (gold, silver and bronze) so far.

Air Marshal Mohammad Ashfaque Arain, Deputy Chief of the Air Staff (administration), who graced the fifth day of the event, gave away medals to successful participants at the prize distribution ceremony. Air Vice Marshal Salman Ahsan Bukhari was also present.

Centre fire pistol (individual event):

1-M. H. Tabassum (Navy) 572 pts; 2-M. Kabeer (Army) 568 pts; 3-M. Boota (Army) 562 pts

Centre fire pistol (team event):

1-Army 1680 pts; 2-Navy 1674; 3-PAF 1604 pts
