NAROWAL: PML-N could win in only 41 union councils out of 98 in the district, with a brother and an uncle of the ruling party’s local MPA also among the losers, while the rival PTI won in 17 UCs and independents bagged the remaining 40.

Khawaja Nadeem Butt, who is elder brother of PML-N MPA Khawaja Waseem Butt, had contested for chairman slot in union council No 23 (Nonar) on the ruling party ticket. He was defeated by PTI candidate Muhammad Arshad Manj.

Similarly, an uncle of the MPA who contested poll in Ward No 6 of Narowal municipal committee (MC) as a PML-N candidate, was defeated by an independent candidate, Zaheerul Hassan Tatla.

PTI stands third in local polls

In UC 58, an ex-MPA of PML-N, Haji Muhammad Ikhalq also lost the poll to independent Ashraf Randhawa.

In Ward No 13 of Narowal MC, Syed Azharul Hassan, son of an ex-MPA, Pir Syed Mazharul Hassan, won with a heavy lead while contesting as a PML-N candidate.

As final unofficial results were declared, PML-N candidates won in 27 wards out of 55 in three MCs of Narowal, Shakargarh and Zafarwal and PTI got success in only six wards. In the remaining 22 wards, independent candidates have won.
