KARACHI: The mother of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Dr Asim Hussain, who is a close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, on Saturday moved the Sindh High Court seeking investigation of the case against her son by the provincial police independently and transparently.

Dr Aijaz Fatima filed a constitutional petition impleading the Sindh police, Rangers and the federal government as respondents and asked the court to direct the respondents to ensure a transparent and independent investigation of the case against Dr Asim by the investigation officer of the provincial police.

The petitioner mother requested the court to direct all authorities concerned not to pressurise the investigation officer in any manner and let him investigate the case independently and transparently.

The petition is expected to come up for preliminary hearing before a two-judge bench on Monday.

It may be recalled that a conflict arose between the Sindh prosecutor general and the Rangers prosecutor over the period of remand of Dr Asim during court proceedings on Thursday before the administrative judge of the Anti-Terrorism Courts.

The Rangers prosecutor opposed the four-day detention, saying Rangers had asked for a 14-day detention in the remand paper submitted in the court, but the Sindh PG had crossed it out and asked for a four-day detention instead.

Dr Asim was first detained by officers in plain clothes on Aug 26 this year, following which he was given in Rangers custody for 90 days. The 90-day detention came to an end on Wednesday.
