LAHORE: Police claimed on Monday to have arrested two architects who were among the main nominated accused in Sundar Industrial Estate factory collapse case.

A case was registered under terrorism, murder and attempt to murder charges against five people on the complaint of Sundar Industries Officer Azhar Husain.

The nominated accused include factory owner Rana Ashraf, building’s architects Tahir and Munir, structure engineers Ahmad Riaz and Muhammad Husain

At least 46 workers were killed and more than 103 injured when the roof of the four-storey Rajput Polyester Factory collapsed on Nov 4.

Homicide Unit Inspector Imran Yaseen told Dawn that architects Munir and Tahir Mehmood were arrested. He said raids were on to arrest the engineers.

He said investigation had begun and people who were held responsible for negligence in the inquiry report submitted to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would be interrogated first.

He said report held the architects (who finalised the building plan), the engineer (who supervised the construction) and the town municipal administration officials (who approved the building plan, map and structure), beside the contractor, responsible for the tragedy. All of them would be arrested, he added.

He said labour department officials who failed to take notice of underage workers in the factory would also be arrested and interrogated.
