BADIN: Dr Aziz Memon, a senior PPP activist currently holding the post of Badin district general secretary, on Monday claimed that he survived an armed attack that left his two bodyguards wounded near Azim House at DC Chowk in Badin city.

Dr Memon, who was defeated by a candidate supported by estranged PPP leader Dr Zulfikar Mirza in the Ward-11election, told Dawn that armed men, believed to be Dr Mirza’s associates, targeted him but he escaped unhurt. He said his bodyguards, Khan Mohammad Hout and Abdul Karim, received gunshot wounds and were in a critical condition. They were referred to the Hyderabad Civil Hospital for treatment, he added.

Dr Memon said the incident was reported to the police, provincial government and PPP high command.

SHO Hakim Jalbani of the Model police station confirmed the attack but said that an FIR was yet to be registered.

Dr Mirza’s close aides, Khalifa Tariq , Advocate Mohammad Essa Mallah, Riaz Ahmed Tahirani, Shahid Khan Afridi and others speaking to journalists after the alleged attack denied having involvement of any member of their group in such an incident.

PPP MNA Sardar Kamal Khan Chang and his other party colleagues in Badin have condemned the attack.
