Cleaning Karachi

Published October 5, 2015

IT is hearting to read that some internal cleansing is being done to improve the condition in government departments. Why not do some external cleaning too?

Karachi city is in a mess. We see torn and tattered party flags, broken panaflex, wooden strips of frames hanging precariously, overflowing gutters, trails of garbage from overstuffed and open trucks and what not are a common sight.

Karachi’s population is about 20 million and the cleaning workers may be 20,000. If they sweep and clean from morning to evening and the citizens continue to throw garbage from morning till night, will the city ever remain clean?

How about generating funds for cleaning equipment from the culprits who have been fattened by corruption? They may be asked to provide immediately 50 dumpsters which chew up the garbage, 50 trucks with tarpaulin cover, shovels (manual) and shovel trailers, brooms, rakes and trolleys, garbage bins, black plastic bags, etc., to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation so that a cleaning campaign can be started.

It is the duty of every citizen to keep his city clean.
