LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench gave a final opportunity to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday to file its reply about a bail petition of PPP’s senior leader Qasim Zia facing charges of fraud.

The bureau’s counsel requested the bench for a short adjournment, saying he needed more time to present record of the case.

The bench allowed the request, observing that it would decide the petition even if the reply was not submitted on the next hearing, September 7.

Mr Zia through his counsel stated in the petition that he had left the company “Ali Usman Brokerage” seven years before it committed the alleged fraud. The counsel said NAB officials kept his client in custody for 16 days but failed to establish his involvement in the scam. He said the case was a result of mere political victimisation. He asked the court to release his client on bail.
