THE comment in the op-ed page (July 27), ‘Books over bullets’ was a touching one. The references given according to the context were agreeable. The statement by Nobel Peace laureate Malala Yousafzai that an eight-day expenditure of militants on weaponries is about $32 billion. However, the same amount could be used to fund 12 years of free but quality education worldwide.
I agree with Sarah Awan that Pakistan would be in greater trouble in the near future owing to low standards and the low literacy level.Besides, gender bias has been one of the main reasons for many girls remaining uneducated.
Education is the only way for Pakistan to progress.
