Photo op alert: 'Humans of New York' to come to Pakistan

It's finally happening: popular photo blog 'Humans of New York' (HONY), which documents the stories and experiences of ordinary people in its street portrait series, is coming to Pakistan in August.

This was announced by the blog creator, Brandon Stanton, in a Facebook post today:

This is a wish come true for many Pakistanis. HONY, which has over 14.2 million followers on Facebook and over 3.5 million followers on Instagram, has a big following in Pakistan.

In September last year, Stanton visited India during HONY's 50-day world tour. The HONY-inspired 'Humans of Karachi' Facebook page, run by photographer Khaula Jamil, called for its followers to send a collective shout-out to Stanton, inviting him to Karachi:

And the humans of Karachi were heard. Although Stanton was unable to visit due to visa issues, he made a promise to visit:

On one hand who will take responsibility for the security & safety & on the other hand we don't want Other countries intelligence poking their nose in Pakistan. Since , all their NGO's working for them who were collecting information/ Data, have been stopped & been given limited access to everything while being monitored by PAKISTAN. So this seems fishy & not good.

I love Humans of New York. It's a moment of peace and remembrance of humanity and the simple things in a not so simple life. I have fond memories of the picture of the Pakistani wall street banker. He was well dressed and had the most amazing mustache - all his brothers were back home in Pakistan serving the Pakistani Army.
