LAHORE: Six races in the summer meeting are scheduled at the start of the 2015-16 Lahore racing season at the Racecourse here on Sunday afternoon.

As the new season starts there seems a great enthusiasm among those professionally involved in horse racing despite the scorching heat and muggy weather in the provincial metropolis.

All stake-holders have joined hands with steady interest, particularly owners and trainers by subscribing a sizable number of 73 entries to compete in six races with a glow of satisfaction in sight and promising the opening day programme a truly competitive and attractive racing action.

As the racing resume after an 18-day break, the connoisseurs of the equine sports seems to be geared up to brave the oppressive and muggy weather mounted by frequent power shut-downs, that has made life miserable with no signs of remedy.

Races programmed for Sunday are made up by the class six and class seven horses while events meant for thoroughbreds in class four and class five have been declared void for want of entries because the owners feel concerned about the mercury shooting up high.

Five races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 900 metres and one over 1,000 metres.

The main event, the Moj-e-Bahar Plate class six division II and III to be contested over 1,000 metres, is fairly subscribed of 13 horses, with overwhelming majority of thoroughbreds. That promises a competitive racing action.
