Court rejects Ayyan Ali's bail request

RAWALPINDI: A special Customs Court in Rawalpindi denied super model Ayyan Ali's bail application after hearing arguments from both sides on Wednesday.
Ayyan was arrested in March on charges of smuggling US $500,000 abroad. Since then, she is being held at Adiala Jail.
Counsel for Ayyan Ali, Advocate Latif Khosa stated in the Customs Court that she was carrying money to hand over to her brother, who was travelling to Pakistan from Dubai.
In a review on Ayyan's bail application, Khosa said the money seized is the joint property of the model and her brother. Khosa defended Ayyan stating that the model was not taking money out of the country and was arrested before she could get her boarding card.
He also said that access to the VIP lounge is not difficult and anyone can get access on payment of Rs 1000, adding she was arrested at the point where there was no customs counter. He further added that the job of the Airport Security Force (ASF) is to check for weapons.

Customs lawyer Malik Kamal said the model was carrying the money in her personal baggage, adding the model failed to justify her stance and was caught red handed.
The court denied the bail application after earlier reserving its decision.

Mr Khosa, she was taking money out without legal channels. I think Khosa sahib need to revise his primary school syllabus and understand the basic concepts of import, export and money laundering.

She was going to the departure lounge. Her brother, if indeed arriving from Dubai at more or less the same time, would have gone straight to immigration and then to arrivals. Where would she have met him to give him the money? Would have needed a very special security clearance for either her to meet him at arrivals or for him to meet her in departures. And who carries half a million foreign currency in cash anyways? If it was to be used in Pakistan, why wasn't it in Pak rupees?

that is true. unnecessary prolongation of the case. Just fine here for her mistake. To transfer your money from country is not a crime, but to carry it in the form of cash is illegal. If she had transfer it via legal channel, there is no problem. Custom authorities are misusing their power.

Though there are multiple reasons for an outrage against this case, the one that the media refuse to shed any light about is the fact that Ayyan Ali's lawyer is no other but former Punjab Governor "Lateef Khosa". Also not discussed anywhere is the fact that the Chief inspector investigating the case was murdered in Rawalpindi yesterday.

We have to give bail to Axact CEO Shohaib imported foreign exchange & giving job to 3000 employees. Mr. Khosa can you verify your licence of advocate, you made Ayyan case complicated. Judge did need a proof, Mr. Khosa agreed Ayyan guilt in the count.
