Pakistan will continue implementation of CPEC project: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has dismissed India's concerns the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project saying it will go ahead with the project which will benefit the whole region.

Zee News had quoted Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj as saying, “Prime Minster Modi during his recent visit to Beijing took up the issue very firmly and spoke very strongly that the CPEC going through PoK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) is unacceptable.”

A spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office said, Pakistan is committed to implement the project as it would benefit the entire region.

"The Corridor is a fusion of multiple developments in the global, regional, bilateral and domestic contexts. The ultimate objective is peace, prosperity and well being of the people of the two countries, the region and the world." said Minister Planning, Development and Reform Prof Ahsan Iqbal at the fourth meeting of China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The 3,000-km corridor running from Pakistan's southern Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea to China's western Xinjiang region, was launched in April during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Islamabad despite India’s strong objections: Hindustan Times.

Just like the nuclear program of the country kept on going from strength to strength despite the huge opposition of the project from US and India and many other powers...this CPEC will be completed even with all sorts of opposition...only it will pick pace with redouble resolve to complete the project earlier. India has nothing to do with this project and should stop behaving like a hegemony.

It sounds very strange to me that Ahsan Iqbal says, " we will continue because this project is for prosperity." Why doesn't he say that Kashmir belongs to Pakistan and we do what suits our people and that India should rather stop opressing the people of occupied Kashmir".

Indian objections can be silenced once for all if we show some courage and hold a UN monitored plebiscite in Azad Kashmir and Northern Areas. This would revive the UN resolutions on Kashmir and give some legitimacy to our claims.

Chinese are cool and calculative whereas Pakistanis are emotional and brash. The China-Pakistan- Economic-Corridor is just a road, a motor-way for Pakistan and it is more than an Economic Corridor for China. The competitors of China must surely be worried about the corridor not because Pakistan would benefit from it but because Chinese goods will be cheaper and far more competitive and also for Chinese military presence in Arabian Sea where Chinese may become party to ongoing Middle-east crisis and explore all possible means to sell their arms. China builds an infrastructure for themselves employing their companies and their technicians with the money of Pakistan (including 18% interest) serving their economic and strategic motives and what Pakistan gets are roads, just roads.

India doesn't realize that no one cares about her claims over kashmir - least of all China which staples visas into the passports of people from kashmir. India also has claims to aksai chin, which China controls. And lastly, China will not allow its entire western region to remain undeveloped on account of indian objections. China needs this project. Even the U.S. is supportive of this project. No one cares if it offends india, which everyone knows is an extremely sensitive and easily offended country.

@Niju Correction: GB is not part of Pakistan but belongs to Kashmir. Kashmir is an integral part of India. India is using the same logic that China uses against India for any construction in Arunachal Pradesh. There is a bigger game going on!!!
