PESHAWAR: Saraf and Jewellers Association, Peshawar, has given eight-day deadline to the provincial government for the arrest of robbers involved in broad daylight looting of gold and cash from jewellery market on May 16.

Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, Jehangir Ghufran, president of the association, said the robbers armed with sophisticated weapons held shopkeeper, Shamsuddin Abraize, and his salesmen hostage at gunpoint for 45 minutes and deprived him of his whole life assets worth millions of rupees.

Flanked by other traders, Mr Ghufran said the incident occurred owing to negligence of the concerned police.

He said after the incident, traders protested and blocked Hospital and GT roads, which compelled SSP operations Dr Mian Saeed to meet the protesters and assure them to arrest the culprits and recover gold in three days. But, even after the lapse of 10 days no progress had been made in this regard, he regretted.
