MURREE: Education minister Punjab Rana Mashood Ali on Friday said legal action would be taken against cadet colleges operating without proper facilities.

Talking to mediapersons here, the minister said a number of educational institutions in the town did not follow rules and regulations of the education department.

He said the executive district officer (education) had been asked to carry out an investigation against such institutions.

It may be noted that the resort town has seen a mushroom growth of cadet colleges set up in hired buildings such as hotels. The cadet colleges lack basic facilities, including science laboratories, playgrounds, proper classrooms and qualified faculty.

These institutions keep the names similar to the prestigious government institutions to attract the citizens.

The administrations of these private cadet colleges set up their offices in major cities and through advertisements invite people to admit their children in the cadet colleges. They also charge heavy fees from them in advance.

However, when the parents and students reach the colleges, they feel cheated.

Despite repeated reports in the media, the departments concerned have failed to take action against the administrations of such cadet colleges.
