KARACHI: Officials of the provincial health department have sealed five ‘illegal’ clinics in the Malir town neighbourhood while several other facilities run by shadowy medical practitioners have been warned to close forthwith, it emerged on Thursday.

In a report sent to the provincial health department on Wednesday, the town health officer of Malir town said a three-member task force comprising senior officials of the department visited several clinics and issued the owners with ‘final notices’ to verify their degrees or action would be initiated against them.

Officials said the owners of the clinics who failed to produce certificates were visited again and a ‘last warning’ was given to them to immediately shut down their ‘illegal’ clinics.

In between, they added, the task force, with the help of Malir district administration and law enforcement agencies, sealed five clinics, which included Moin Clinic, Khalid Clinic, Al-Shifa Clinic and Khadim Clinic — all located in Liaquat Market; and Shabana Clinic and Maternity Home in Khokhrapar.
